who represents their state with pride

The iconic state bear was an important visual motif for the ETP team.

PROBLEM

Rebrand and modernize a long-standing state agency with a recognizable logo, without confusing and alienating the members of the public that are frequently served by agency staff.

APPROACH

By conducting a thorough survey of over 100 ETP employees, I determined that ETP desired a new logo that contained a familiar icon to represent their beloved state. The strength of the iconic California state flag bear was their final selection. 

With a clear picture of the visual, the next step was to find a way to customize the bear and make it unique to the agency. In addition to those stylistic adjustments, I also flipped the bear so that it would appear to be walking forward, towards growth and progress.
